Rafe is definitely a visionary. He goes above and beyond the call of duty to make see that his students succeed. One thing that stuck out to me was when they were in Washington D.C at the hotel Rafe said, "We stay in nice hotels and eat at nice restaurants because I want to show the kids what there working for." I agree with this statement because if you tell a child that if they work hard they will do good in life but don't show them what they are working for then they aren't going to try very hard. His style is definitely unique teaching high school literature to fifth graders. Reading this material and helping them actually understand it will help them excel in life and when it comes time for high school and college they will be prepared. His style with the money helps them be a little more prepared for the real world as well.
A goal I have for the next year would be to be able to actually make it on my own in Columbus, where I already have an apartment I'll be moving into in Sept with some friends. Being able to balance school and work which I already do, but not relying on the parents for money all the time. haha.

  1. That part of the film stuck out to me, too. I think showing the kids what they're working for makes a huge difference. They begin to love and enjoy it, and they can picture where they will be in the future much better. Having a clear goal and exciting future in mind will help the kids in the difficult years to come and the challenges they will face.
